Foundation – Year 2 Recap
We are halfway through the term, and our Foundation to Year 2 students have made fantastic progress in their physical education journey! Here is a quick look at the core skills and concepts we have focused on over the past few weeks:
- Throwing & Catching: Students have worked hard on object control, practicing proper throwing form (stepping with the opposite foot and following through) and catching with "soft hands" to cushion the ball.
- Locomotor Skills & Body Awareness: We have explored fundamental movements like running, hopping, skipping, and dodging. Students also tuned into how their bodies react to exercise, noticing faster heartbeats, deeper breathing, and warm muscles to understand how physical activity keeps us healthy.
- Fair Play & Resilience: Through team games, students have practiced managing the emotions of winning and losing, learning to bounce back, support their peers, and show respectful, inclusive sporting behavior.
Keep the Momentum Going at Home!
- Practice a quick game of catch in the backyard.
- Ask your child how their heart and breathing feel after playing outside.
- Celebrate effort and positive teamwork during family games!
Year 3 and Year 4 Recap
Our Year 3 and 4 students have continued to develop fundamental skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, teamwork and game awareness through our Soccer unit, with students showing growing confidence and sportsmanship each lesson.
We have also been focusing on building stronger teamwork and positive class dynamics. Since introducing our five-minute whole-class teamwork challenges, it has been fantastic to see students communicating more effectively, encouraging one another and working together to achieve a class personal best.
With the cold winter days upon us, we have also revisited some old favourite Tiggy games to keep active and warm. These games have been a great way for students to practise movement, agility and decision-making while having plenty of fun.
Next up, we’re swapping soccer balls for basketballs. Students will develop their basketball skills while continuing to focus on teamwork, cooperation and positive participation. We’re looking forward to the second half of the term!
Year 5 and Year 6 Recap
Our Year 5 and 6 students have shown incredible adaptability and resilience as we transitioned from our volleyball unit straight into an action-packed tennis program!
- Volleyball Wrap-Up: Students finished the unit with fantastic development, learning the foundational techniques of serving, setting, and digging with growing confidence and control during gameplay.
- Tennis & Sporting Schools Program: We have officially kicked off our tennis unit, featuring expert coaches delivering specialised sessions through the Australian Government's Sporting Schools initiative.
- Forehands & Rallying: This week, students focused heavily on proper forehand technique, racquet control, and working cooperatively with partners to maintain a steady rally.
Mastering brand new racquet sports takes plenty of patience, and it has been wonderful to see students lean into the challenge with determination and resilience!
Enjoy your weekend,
