In Week 7 on Wednesday (26th of August), we will lead our Community Mass with Foundation students, as well as celebrating Book Week with a parade on Monday the 24th of August. Students can dress up as their favourite literary character and parents are welcome to watch the parade. Finally, in Week 8 we will celebrate Father's Day. There will be a breakfast for the Dads or special people in our lives. A reminder that the food is for the Dads!

Note taking

Students have been working on making notes during writing so they can remember key words and important facts to include when writing independently.

We are looking forward to seeing our families over the coming weeks during these events. Have a lovely weekend.

The Year 1 Team.

The week ahead:

Religious Education: Students will continue learning about the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist. They will explore the symbols, celebrations and important messages of each sacrament, and how these bring the faith community together.

Writing:  Students will continue to read books written by Gregg Dreise. Next week, we will read Cunning Crow.

Reading: Students will learn the split digraph e-e which makes the long/e-/ sound. The dash tells us that a consonant grapheme sits between the i and the e. The other way students were learning to spell this sound is represented represented by the single letter e.

What you can do at home

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.

Gallery Image

• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.

• Re-reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.

Gallery Image

• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”

• A curious question to ask this week could be: What traditions does your family, school or community celebrate?

Important Reminders:

  • Fidget Toys

We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

  • Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.

  • Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.

Enjoy your weekend,
