Spotlight on Learning

Bethlehem Community

Dear Families,

It has been another busy and exciting week in the Grade 6 community!

Our students have begun their sports training in preparation for the upcoming Interschool Sports. It has been wonderful to see them embracing the opportunity, working together as a team and giving their very best.

We would also like to congratulate our students who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this Friday and Saturday. We wish them every blessing as they celebrate this special occasion and take the next step in their faith journey. We are very proud of them and look forward to sharing in this significant milestone with them and their families.

Finally, a big congratulations to all of the students who have received awards over the past couple of weeks! Your hard work, dedication and positive attitude are truly commendable. Keep up the fantastic work, Grade 6!

Learning For Week 6:

Religious Education:   Next week in Religious Education, students will continue exploring our inquiry, “How do our choices shape the story we leave behind?” Building on our learning about the Eucharist and living our faith, students will unpack the Gospel of Matthew 25:31–46, the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats, and explore what Jesus teaches us about how our choices and the way we treat others reflect our faith.

English: In English next week, students will continue developing their understanding of information reports by revisiting their purpose, structure and key features. They will plan and write a body paragraph, as well as a concluding paragraph, focusing on organising their ideas clearly and using appropriate language and supporting details.

Mathematics: Next week, we will continue our work on decimals by learning to divide whole numbers and decimal fractions by powers of 10 using a Gattegno chart and place value chart. We will then use rounding to multiples of 10 to estimate answers when multiplying and dividing decimals. Using VLS is helping us develop effective strategies for solving mathematical problems.

Performing Arts: In Performing Arts next week, students will explore how stories can be communicated through drama. They will create tableaux to represent memories, using body language, facial expressions and positioning to bring their ideas and experiences to life.

Auslan: In Auslan, students were assessed on their ability to sign a short story based on We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and communicate wondering thoughts and questions through Auslan during learning activities.

Social & Emotional Learning: In SEL, students will continue learning about gender roles and how stereotypes can influence the way people think and behave. They will explore ways to challenge stereotypes and develop fair, respectful and non-biased perspectives.

What you can do to help your child at home

  • Encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each day and discuss the characters, events and themes in their book.
  • Practise maths skills through everyday activities such as cooking, shopping, measuring and working with fractions.

Important Reminders

  • Fidget Toys: We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

Please remember to pencil in the School Events listed on the page to your diary, to ensure you are well prepared for this term.
