Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

This week, we had the privilege of celebrating Mass together. It was wonderful to see so many families attend and share in this special celebration with our school community.

During the Gospel, we reflected on Matthew 18:15–20, where Jesus reminds us of the importance of listening, reconciliation and coming together as a community. Our students were encouraged to be reverent throughout the celebration, showing respect through their words, actions and attentive participation.

A sincere thank you to all the families who attended and helped make our Mass such a meaningful occasion for our students. We greatly appreciate your support and presence.

Learning in Year 5 for Term 3:

Religious Education:

Next week in Religious Education, students will listen to a guided reflection on the Last Supper and take time to thoughtfully meditate on its meaning. They will respond to reflective questions to deepen their understanding of Jesus' message and its significance for Christians today.

English:

Next week in English, students will be consolidating and editing their information reports. They will review their writing for clarity, organisation, punctuation and spelling, while making improvements to ensure their reports are accurate, engaging and ready for publication.

Mathematics:

Next week in Maths, students will be learning how to rename decimals as tenths, hundredths and thousandths to help them solve problems accurately. They will use this understanding when working with addition, subtraction and division, particularly when quantities need to be expressed using the same place-value unit before calculating. Students will also practise deciding which operation is needed by identifying clues in worded problems, such as finding a difference or sharing a quantity into equal groups. Throughout the lessons, students will be encouraged to show their calculations and equations and use visual representations to explain their mathematical thinking.

Integrated Curriculum:

Next week in Integrated Studies, students will use empathy to develop believable characters and explore their thoughts, feelings and actions. They will also create improvised scenes using puppets, developing their creativity, expression and storytelling skills.

Auslan:

Next week in Auslan, students will explore how signed stories provide a fun way to use their imagination and creativity. They will develop their expressive signing skills by showing a character’s actions, movements and feelings within a signed story.

Social & Emotional Learning:

Next week in Social and Emotional Learning, students will explore what bullying is and what it is not, including the key characteristics of bullying and how to recognise when someone may be experiencing it. They will also learn about being an upstander and explore safe and respectful ways to support others, promote inclusion and respond appropriately when they witness bullying.

Camp permissions are now available on PAM. Please complete the camp permission form as soon as possible.

• the Camp Activities Permission Form (including separate permissions for canoeing and horse riding), and
• the Dietary Requirements Form.

Year 7 Enrolment St Peter’s College 2028

St Peter's College has advised that enrolments for 2028 are filling quickly, with only limited places remaining.

If you have not yet submitted your child's enrolment application for St Peter's College for 2028, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. 

Please note that enrolment at St Thomas the Apostle does not guarantee a place at St Peter's College.

• Fidget Toys - We kindly ask that students do not bring fidget toys to school unless their use is a planned adjustment in consultation with Allied Health Professionals. Students who bring fidget toys without an approved adjustment will be asked to place them in their school bag for the remainder of the day to take home. We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to leave fidget toys at home.

• Camp to Mill Valley Ranch will be on 12th-13th October. Wednesday 14th October is a student free day for year 5. 

• Camp permissions are now available on PAM. Please complete the camp permission form as soon as possible. Within the permission form, you will find two linked forms that also need to be completed—one for camp activities and one for dietary requirements. If you are experiencing any difficulties accessing PAM, please contact our school administration team for assistance.
