Robin Hood versus Ned Kelly

Year 9/10 Drama
Robin Hood versus Ned Kelly
Even though Robin Hood is a legend and Ned Kelly was a real person, the way we remember both of these men today is a mixture of fact and fiction. This conflict between truth and myth was explored in a comical way in a recent ensemble performance by Year 9/10 Drama students.
The Year 9/10 class went through a process of researching, improvising, discussing and rehearsing, eventually presenting their original performance for an audience of Year 9s and 10s. Beginning with the deaths of Robin Hood and Ned Kelly, the performance jumped back and forth in time, with performers playing multiple roles, and the final scene had the two characters competing for who was the worthiest hero, despite the fact that both were outlaws.
The students worked really well as a team and did a great job of creating an original performance in a few weeks. It’s also worth mentioning that on the performance day one of the actors, who played a central role, was absent. But, as they say, the show must go on!
Just as we were working out how we would solve this, in walked a student who had just returned from a six week trip. Despite knowing nothing about the performance, he was happy to jump in, and after a bit of shuffling of roles, on they went!
Congratulations to all the performers!
