The Final Bell Rings – Holidays Are Here!

We’ve reached the last week of Term 1, and what a fantastic journey it has been! Two weeks of well-earned holidays are just around the corner, giving everyone a chance to rest, recharge, and get ready for another exciting term ahead.

Literacy

Haiku Poetry and Our Place in Time

This term, our literacy focus took a creative turn as students explored the art of Haiku poetry. Inspired by our Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, students crafted beautiful and thought-provoking Haikus that captured moments in history, personal reflections, and connections to their own lives. Their ability to express complex ideas in just 17 syllables was truly impressive!

Numeracy

Mapping the Gold Rush

In numeracy, students took a deep dive into Australia’s Gold Rush era through an engaging mapping learning task. They identified grid coordinates, solved spatial challenges and pieced together a puzzle of the Australian states and territories. This hands-on approach not only sharpened their mapping skills but also deepened their understanding of how geography played a role in historical events.

Inquiry

Thinking Hats and the 1788 Settlement

Critical thinking was front and centre in our inquiry lessons this week as students used De Bono’s Thinking Hats to generate and explore questions about the European settlement of Australia in 1788. By wearing different ‘hats,’ students examined the historical event from multiple perspectives, considering facts, emotions, benefits and challenges. Their discussions were rich, thoughtful, and demonstrated an impressive level of curiosity and understanding.

Sport Expo

A Week of Action!

With no regular sports matches this week, the Grade 5 and 6 students had the chance to experience a Sport Expo filled with a variety of exciting activities. From the fast-paced action of Ultimate Frisbee and handball to the rhythm and movement of breakdancing and aerobics, students gave it their all. Taekwondo was a particular highlight, with students learning basic techniques and self-discipline. The energy and enthusiasm were through the roof—what a fantastic way to keep active!

Harmony Day

Celebrating Belonging On Monday, our school came together to celebrate Harmony Day, embracing the powerful message that everyone belongs. We read Elmer the Elephant, a story that beautifully highlights the value of diversity and inclusivity. Through discussions and activities, students reflected on what it means to be part of a community that respects and celebrates differences. It was a heartwarming way to remind us all of the importance of kindness and connection.

Colour Run & Sliming

 Fundraising Fun!

Tuesday was an explosion of colour and laughter as students took part in the highly anticipated Colour Run! Dashing through clouds of vibrant colours, they raced their way to the finish line in support of an important cause. The highlight of the day? The grand sliming—a hilarious and unforgettable moment!

A huge thank you to our incredible parents for making this event possible. The funds raised will go towards resurfacing our basketball courts, ensuring students have a fantastic space to play and practice their skills.

Easter Fun with Preps!

To wrap up the term on a festive note, our Grade 5 students teamed up with their Prep buddies for a delightful Easter Activity Afternoon. Together, they crafted adorable bunny ears and decorated their very own Easter baskets. The joy on the younger students’ faces as they created and played alongside their Grade 5 buddies was truly special. A wonderful way to spread the Easter cheer!

Looking Ahead…

With Term 1 behind us, we’re looking forward to a well-deserved break. Rest up, enjoy time with family and friends, and get ready for another term packed with learning, fun, and new challenges. See you all in Term 2!
