A Special Invitation to the Indonesian Consulate in Melbourne
On Monday 17 August, several of our students had the wonderful opportunity to attend a special Flag Raising Ceremony at the Consulate General of Indonesia in Melbourne, as part of their prize for winning our school’s poster competition.
Year 1 – Arav P (1F)
Year 3 – Maureen L (3S)
Year 5 – Vicky R and Deborah L (5C)
The students were able to experience an event that extended their learning well beyond the classroom. They watched the traditional flag-raising ceremony, gaining a first-hand insight into the cultural significance and traditions associated with Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations.
One of the highlights of the visit was meeting the Consul General of Indonesia in Melbourne, who took the time to speak with the students and congratulate them on their achievements in the poster competition. This was a particularly memorable experience, giving our students the opportunity to meet a senior diplomatic representative and learn more about the important relationship between Australia and Indonesia.
Of course, no celebration would be complete without food! The students enjoyed a delicious selection of Indonesian food and had the chance to experience some of the country’s flavours and culinary traditions. They even went for seconds!
The visit was not only a celebration of our students’ creativity and hard work, but also a wonderful cultural learning experience. They had lots of fun, asked questions, made new connections and gained insights that simply cannot be replicated in a classroom.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their achievement in the VILTA poster competition and for representing our school so enthusiastically at this special event.
