Grade 1 News

Welcome to Week 4!
Today began in an exciting and meaningful way as our school community gathered for breakfast to mark the beginning of Lent with Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day. The students thoroughly enjoyed this special time together and took part in conversations about the importance of what Shrove Tuesday symbolises as we prepare for the Lenten season.
In Literacy, students have started the year by reviewing initial sounds and building words. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence as they practise recognising sounds and applying them in their reading and writing.
In Mathematics, we have completed our unit on Data and Graphing. Students loved collecting data and creating both pictographs and tally graphs. They showed great enthusiasm when gathering information and representing it in different ways.
We have also loved seeing the students’ enthusiasm for their home reading. Thank you for the time and effort you put into reading each night with your child, it truly makes a huge difference in their learning and confidence.
Tomorrow, we will attend a special Ash Wednesday celebration at 10:30am in the chapel. This will be another meaningful opportunity for reflection as we begin the season of Lent.
We look forward to another wonderful couple of weeks of learning together.
