Foundation News

It has been a wonderful start to the year in Foundation, and we are very proud of how well our students have settled into school routines. Over the past few weeks, children have been learning classroom expectations, building friendships, and becoming familiar with our learning spaces.
In Literacy, students have been learning about rhyme and syllables through stories and hands-on activities. We are practising how to listen carefully, take turns when speaking, and enjoying books together.
In Mathematics, we have explored patterns using classroom objects and this week we are beginning to look at ordering daily events, parts of the day, and the days of the week.
A reminder that Wednesdays continue to be Rest Days for Foundation students until the week beginning March 10th (after the Labour Day weekend). We also have our final “Get to Know You” interviews this Wednesday, as scheduled with you at the end of last year.
A reminder that starting school is a big step, and it’s normal for some children to feel unsure, tired, or emotional as they adjust to new routines and time away from family. Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and support at home as your child builds confidence and independence. We are here to support both you and your child through this important transition, and we are already seeing wonderful progress.
Important date for Foundation 2026 families:
We warmly invite parents and carers to attend our Foundation Families Information Session on Wednesday 4th March from 6 –7pm. This session is for adults only and will be held in the Foundation Building (Please enter through the front gate near the hall if parking on Williams Road or use our school car park area).
During the evening, we will share what a typical day looks like for a Foundation student; explain our InitiaLit literacy program and talk about readers and home reading routines.
We will also discuss practical ways families can support learning at home, followed by time for questions. If you have any questions, you would like answered at this evening, please email them to your child's classroom teacher and we will respond to them during the information session. There will also be time for questions at the end of our presentation.
We hope you can join us for this informative and welcoming session.
Kind regards,
The Foundation Team
