Grade 5 News

Welcome to Week 4!

It has been a very busy but exciting few weeks in Grade 5.

We were incredibly impressed by the high quality of the Leadership applications submitted by our students. The thoughtful effort and care taken made the selection process both rewarding and very challenging. Once all Leadership roles have been determined, there will be an assembly to present the badges. These dates will be communicated in coming weeks.

In Literacy, students have begun reading War Horse, a novel told from a horse’s perspective. Through this unique narrative voice, students are exploring how the impacts of war extend beyond people to the animals involved. Inspired by the text, students have been writing their own narratives from an animal’s point of view, demonstrating creativity and strong word choice in their storytelling.

In Mathematics, we recently completed our unit on data and graphs. Students developed their understanding of dot plots and line graphs, learning to interpret data sets and create their own representations. This week, we have moved into a new unit on factors and multiples.

Parents are invited to attend the Grade 5 Liturgy in Week 6 on Tuesday, 4th March at 12:30pm in the school chapel. We look forward to sharing this special time together.

It has been wonderful to see so many reading diaries already returned, and we look forward to receiving more soon. It’s been great to hear about the strong reading habits already developing at home. Please continue to encourage your child to read for at least 15 minutes each evening.

Our first round of our Grade 5 Sport Championship trophy is complete!

Both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, determination, and teamwork throughout the Kickball Cup.

We are announcing the winner on Wednesday, so stay tuned!
