VCE Applied Computing Students Dive Into Virtual Reality!
Recently, our VCE Unit 3-4 and Unit 1-2 Applied Computing students had an exciting opportunity to experience an innovative interactive virtual reality (VR) incursion, enhancing their studies with a hands-on approach to emerging technologies. This immersive experience allowed our students to explore a range of job-related virtual scenarios while building upon their strengths and interests.
Throughout the incursion, students explored various learning styles and had the chance to reflect on their career preferences and strengths. They used cutting-edge VR tools to access virtual experiences related to diverse career pathways, such as heart surgery, forklift operation, flight simulator and literally dived into Ocean Rift (Underwater Exploration with Great white sharks).
The incursion was not only fun but also a valuable learning opportunity as students discussed and practiced skills required in various jobs and careers, from cooking and logistics management to aviation and emergency services. They gained deeper insights into contemporary and emerging skills, exploring how these can translate into real-world job opportunities.
As part of the experience, students also developed their understanding of fixed and growth mindsets, reflecting on how their personal mindset can influence career development and success. Through this process, they increased their self-awareness and discovered more about the careers that align with their passions and talents.
Some of the immersive and interactive VR titles that the students explored included:
- Heart Surgery
- Forklift Operation
- Ocean Rift (Underwater Exploration)
- Cooking
- Logistics
- Airport Operations
- Flight simulator
This VR incursion allowed our students to start using career tools that will help guide their future decision-making, giving them a deeper understanding of potential career paths and the skills required to succeed in the tech industries.
