Embracing Environmentalism
At Oakleigh Grammar, we are committed to upholding the Round Square IDEALS—Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. This year, Environmentalism takes centre stage as we focus on sustainability and responsible stewardship of our world. Our students are embracing this challenge, recognising their role as changemakers who can influence their peers and the wider community through meaningful action.
Leadership in this space is already taking shape, with our School Captains across the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools considering how they can drive positive change. Using the Discovery Framework, which helps students develop essential competencies such as problem-solving, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility, they are exploring initiatives that support a more sustainable future at Oakleigh Grammar. Whether through waste reduction programs, energy-saving initiatives, or awareness campaigns, our student leaders are eager to leave a lasting impact.
In addition to our school-based efforts, a delegation of students and teachers will soon attend a Round Square Conference in Perth. This gathering will provide a platform for collaboration, idea-sharing, and inspiration, as participants engage with peers from around the world to discuss solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
Our Junior School students will also have a special opportunity to participate in an upcoming World Wide Show and Tell session where they will exchange ideas with students from other Round Square schools. This reinforces the idea that they are part of a much larger world, encouraging openness, appreciation for different cultures, and the understanding that learning can extend beyond their own community.
It is an exciting time at Oakleigh Grammar, as our students recognize that they are not just learners but leaders. Through the IDEALS Discovery Framework, they are developing the skills and confidence to take initiative, inspire others, and contribute to a more sustainable world.
Their passion and commitment remind us that real change starts with small, purposeful actions—and that every student has the power to make a difference.
