On Sunday, at the main stage of the RNA’s Esports area in the heart of the Channel 7 Pavilion, a group of six dedicated Yr12 students from The Gap State High School spent seven! hours battling for Esports glory in the 2025 League of Legends High School Cup hosted by Queensland Esports.

The students had been training for the last 15 months during the Time 4 session on a Monday afternoon, and also competed in this competition last year, finishing 5th.

This year, the students (who were seeded close to last prior to the event) bested top-ranking schools on their way to the Grand final match with QASMT.

In a nail-biting 40-minute encounter that went down to the wire, the students narrowly lost the final in a coin-flip teamfight that unfortunately didn’t go their way. It was amazing to see the students compete so strongly against a final opponent who were higher-ranked and more experienced in every way.

For their efforts, the students won a prize pack and medallions to remember their momentous feat. They play again, trying to go one better in the QUT invitational held in November.

A huge shoutout to the following students involved:

  • Luka
  • Lana
  • Joel
  • Thomas
  • Jared
  • Jackson
