Freeman
Another term has come to an end and it is a great time to reflect on the amazing work that has taken place in our House. We kicked the term off by farewelling our Class of 2024 with a combined assembly in the Gym and celebrations occurring throughout the week in mentor groups.
Graduation Dinner
The Freeman House Team was fortunate to be a part of the Graduation Dinner to celebrate the incredible contribution that our Year 12 cohort has made to the Blackburn community.
We wish them all the best in the next chapter of their lives and hope that they look back on their time in Freeman as one of fun and enjoyment.
We held several events for our students and celebrated with our Year 9s at Gumbuya World as they head into their senior years at Blackburn next year in 2025.
We rounded out the year with the 2024 Year 7 Orientation Day where we had 50 future Freeman students introduced to the school community and we look forward to their positive contributions to the House over the coming years.
Congratulations to Cameron, our new Freeman House Captain and Ellie, our new Freeman House Vice-Captain for 2025.
They will be working closely with the student leaders and I would like to congratulate the following students who are joining the team as House Ambassadors for 2025:
Jaanvi K, Zara P, Rose E, Anabel S, Samaira K, Angus S, Anushka B and Catherine T.
These student leaders headed out of the city on Friday 22nd November to engage in an amazing race-style scavenger hunt which required students to use their problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team and the ability to stay cool in 30-plus-degree heat. It was a valuable experience for all involved and will be a great starting point for the students to build on their leadership skills.
We are farewelling Ms Lina Liousas and Mr Jordanis Halkidis from Freeman and I would like to thank them for their contribution to the House and Blackburn community. They have been incredible assets to Freeman and will be missed, we wish them all the very best in their teaching journey.
A huge thank you to the Freeman staff for their work this year supporting their mentor students, delivering the mentor program, and supporting the house to ensure it ran smoothly.
I would like to acknowledge the work of the new Assistant House Leaders, Ms Kiara Bloomfield, Mr Lakmal Kariyawasam and Ms Emma Wilkins who have settled into their roles seamlessly and have ensured the smooth running of the House.
A big thank you goes to Ms Melissa Theobald who joined us during the year as our House Administration Assistant. Mel has been pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of Freeman and has been a fantastic addition to the House.
Student Achievement
Congratulations to Angus S who competed at the All-Schools Track and Field Championships on Sunday 27 October.
He won the U14 3000m race walk event. This is a fantastic achievement and one that represents the Freeman House spirit of hard work and perseverance.
On behalf of Freeman House, we wish you all a safe and restful holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed to take on the 2025 school year.
