Sports
Blackburn High School celebrated yet another successful year at inter-school sports. Students enthusiastically participated, showcasing exceptional success in several teams and individual sporting competitions. From sign-ups to final matches, students exhibited pride in representing the school at the inter-school sport level.
By week 3 of the term, the year 7 and 8 students had concluded their Whitehorse division competitions, finishing the year with Tennis and Cricket. In addition to these competitions, the term was filled with a number of Regional, State and National level achievements from our Blackburn High Students.

Year 8 HPE: SEPEP
In Term 4, students in Year 8 took part in a SEPEP (Sports Education in Physical Education Program) unit in their Physical Education classes. SEPEP is based around the philosophy that community sport involvement (structured teams and competitions) has the potential to breed in its participants leadership, responsibility, ownership, dedication, competence, and commitment as well as physical, social and cognitive skills. Students are put in the driver’s seat fulfilling the roles associated with managing a sports competition such as umpires/referees, scorers, equipment managers and coaches/captains. The Year 8 HPE classes played Netball over a 5 lesson round-robin.
Congratulations to the Champion teams pictured below.
Year 7 Boys Cricket SSV Whitehorse Division
In October, Year 7 students played in a round-robin limited-overs tournament at Elgar Park in the SSV Whitehorse Division.
In the first game, Koonung won the toss and sent in BHS. Captains Josh and Elliot put on an outstanding opening partnership of 59 runs off the first 11 overs. After a very watchful first 4 overs that produced 11 runs, the openers moved up the gears by expanding their game, hitting the bad ball whilst still defending the good ball with deft placement rotating the strike with good running between the wickets. In reply, Koonung reached the target score in the final over. It was a thrilling finish to a great game of cricket.
The final game against EDSC was used as an opportunity to give all players a chance to bat or bowl. For some players this was there first ever game of cricket. Elliot continued his fine form with the bat making 17 retired while Harry bowled well with great pace.
Despite the losses, BHS enjoyed their day with their friends playing Australia’s favourite summer sport.
Thank you to assistant coaches Mr Slater and Year 10 Sport Coaches Hugo and Will.
