Melba
Melba has been a hub of activity this Term. In the second week of Term 4, we farewelled the class of 2024. The absence of these students has certainly been noticed and we wish them all the best for their future.
The Year 12 Graduation Dinner was held on Monday 14 October, it was a fantastic turnout, and we had the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge 54 Melba students.
Our planning for next year has begun in earnest and we are incredibly pleased to acknowledge the appointment of the following students to the:
Melba Student Leadership Team for the 2025 academic year
House Captain – Emily B
House Vice Captain – Jessica I
House Ambassadors
Ryan G
Indi H
Ruby I
Rylee L
Bridget L
Hannah S
Emily O
Amalia O
I am confident that these students will be excellent role models and will make positive contributions to the endeavours of Melba throughout the year.
Planning for the House Performing Arts Festival has begun and Melba students will be performing an adaptation of the classic Mary Poppins. It has been pleasing to see so many students getting involved and we encourage any student who is interested but has not yet signed up, to contact the Student Leadership Team.
Students can get involved in several ways including acting, set design, music, prop creation, backstage crew, costuming or hair and makeup.
We would also like to recognise students who have been successful in their endeavours beyond Blackburn High School. Jack H represented Volleyball Victoria at the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships in September as a member of the Under 16’s team. Zara C competed in the State Championships for 3x3 basketball. Her U15 team made it to the quarterfinals and finished 8th overall. Congratulations to both Jack and Zara for their success.
In 2025, there will be some changes to the Melba House Leadership Team with two of our current Assistant House Leaders taking on new challenges.
Mr Merric Butler has been appointed as Middle Years Leader at Blackburn High School and Ms Madeleine Weatherly will be taking Family Leave at the end of Term 1.
I would like to take this time to publicly acknowledge their hard work and their commitment to our students. They will be missed.
Ms. Samantha Barkley and Ms. Rebecca Reber have been appointed to our Assistant House Leaders team and will step into their new roles at the commencement of Term 1 next year.
As the term draws to a close, I would like to thank the Melba students, their families and our dedicated staff, a safe and happy holiday period and a relaxing summer break.
We look forward to working with all new and returning students in 2025.
Ms. Siobhan Dwyer
Melba House Leader
