Student Achievements

Congratulations Charlie W

Charlie W, our Hollows year 9 student played in the FIBA U15 Oceania Basketball tournament from 11-16 November at the AIS in Canberra and Australia did indeed win gold!

The tournament consisted of competitions from a few of our neighbouring countries including New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Guam, Tahiti, Fiji, the Cook Islands and New Caledonia.

Charlie made the team after his on-court performance at the 2024 Australian Junior Championships, a National basketball tournament that was held in Bendigo in July, where he helped his Victorian team win the gold medal. From here, he was selected to participate in a selection camp at the AIS in Canberra and made the Australian team.

Playing for Australia was a dream of Charlie's so he was thrilled to have been part of the journey. Who knows what the future holds but he'll always be able to say that he played for Australia.

Congratulations Drew Achieving Gridiron Success

Congratulations to Drew on his outstanding achievements while playing Gridiron.

Drew returned to Blackburn High School this year, having helped Tafuna High School in American Samoa win their fourth consecutive (four-peat) National American Samoa High School Football Championship. He was one of the few underclassmen selected for the Varsity Team who travelled to the U.S. to play against some of the top-ranked high schools in the nation.

Drew was selected for the third year in a role for the Gridiron Victoria Juniors State Team, made history by being the youngest captain for the state team and also led Victoria to their first-ever Australian National Juniors Gridiron Championship. Drew also scored the only touchdown in the championship game and also had an MVP performance against Queensland, New South Wales and ACT.

As captain, Drew led his Croydon Rangers team in the annual Victoria Bowl game and won their second state championship during the Gridiron Victoria State championship held on  December 14, 2024.

Drew was also awarded the Gridiron Victoria State Defensive Player MVP of 2024.

Congratulations on this outstanding achievement and we wish Drew the best of luck for the Championship Game.
