Blackburn Shines at Whitehorse Division Athletics

Late last term we had approximately 150 students represent BHS in a range of events at the Whitehorse Division Track and Field Championships. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining and all of our students putting in their absolute best. We had so many students happy with personal bests, a large number of students qualified for the Eastern Region after placing 1st in their event/s and Blackburn High School finishing well ahead of the other schools in the division in terms of points. 

Blackburn – 2,098 Points, 

East Doncaster SC - 1,284 Points, 

Koonung SC – 1,269 Points, 

Box Hill HS – 1,079 Points, 

Box Hill SSC – 137 Points. 

We also had four Age Champions – Alex G, Amalia O, Cheryl C and Drew A. 

To top it all off seven records were broken by Blackburn students. 

Fantastic EMR Track & Field Results  

BHS Placed 2nd Overall in the Eastern Region and 6 State Finalists.

Congratulations to every one of our representatives for their performances at the EMR Athletics Finals.  EMR is always a strong region to be a part of in any sport and the competition in every event is tough.  Across the 45 schools in the Eastern Region, Blackburn HS finished 2nd overall and only 13 points away from 1st place. 

School Sport Victoria State Track and Field Final  

In October, six students qualified to compete at the SSV State Track and Field Finals at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. We had brilliant results with medals but also many personal bests. 

Our results for the day were as follows.

Gulliver GK– 3rd Shot Put (17Yrs Boys)

Thomas L – 4th 800m, 5th 1500m (15Yrs Boys)

Mason P – 5th 800m (17Yrs Boys)

Levi P – 9th 1500m (16Yrs Boys) 

Thomas S – 8th 1500m (17Yrs Boys) 

Chloe L – 1st 400m, 1st 800m, 2nd 1500m and 4th High Jump (14Yrs Girls)

Chloe L - State Champion in 2 events and Earns a Special Award

Chloe L was recognised with a special award in recognition of her brilliant run in the 800m event and broke the 400m EMR record. 

It was an absolute pleasure to watch every one of the Blackburn students at these championships – Congratulations!
