On Friday 27th May, St Marys sent three netball teams to compete in the Vicki Wilson Cup preliminary rounds held in Cairns. The Vicki Wilson State Championships is the premier netball competition for high schools across Queensland. Schools from all around the Peninsula region competed against each other to reach the finals.

Well done to our first-ever Boys Netball Team who competed in the carnival. Great effort from all involved and thank you for paving the way for future generations. The competition was definitely not for the faint-hearted. Thanks to Mrs. Bec Gibeny for coaching the team.

Well done to our Junior Netball Team for their competitive efforts on the day too and thanks to Mrs. Tessa Mizzi for supporting them.

Our St Mary’s Senior Netball team experienced great success during the preliminary rounds and went through the day undefeated. The team versed Trinity Bay High School in the final and won, coming away with the Marlin Coast Vicki Wilson Cup (grade 10 to 12). The team will travel to Brisbane for the State Championships in August and play against the top 20 schools from across the state for the chance to be crowned State Champions. This will be the fourth time in five years that a St Mary’s senior netball team has reached the Championship final series. The 2022 team consists of Paige Woods, Grace Massingham, Erin Massingham, Lila Hodge, Charlotte Jonsen, Caitlin Jackson, Emily Warncke, Ella Stevens, Jessica Haines, Zoe Curcuruto, and Taylor Park. The senior team is coached by Mrs. Kerrily Tindall.
