SEMESTER REPORTS

All students have now entered the very busy part of term with drafting and finalising of assessment. This means that we will be collating your student reports over the coming weeks. Your child’s semester report will be available on the portal on the final day of term, Friday 24 June. On this same day you will also receive your login details to book an appointment time for a parent-student-teacher conversation.

PARENT-STUDENT-TEACHER CONVERSATIONS

Once again, St Mary’s invites all parents/carers and their students to engage in very informative and rewarding conversations around student progress. Our Conversations Evening will occur on Thursday 21 July, from 2:00pm to 6:20pm. Once you have received your child’s semester report, it is ideal to go online and prioritise bookings with teachers who have requested an interview with you. Students should attend these conversations in their formal uniform. Should you be unable to attend this evening, or find that the teacher you wish to see is fully booked, then please contact the college office to arrange for another suitable time.

YEAR 10 PATHWAYS AND SUBJECT SELECTIONS

Over the course of term three, Year 10 students will participate in St Mary’s SET Planning Process. SET (Senior Education and Training) Planning is a crucial part of students achieving success in their final years of secondary schooling. As SET planning requires student, parent and teacher input, we expect parents to participate in two key sessions of our student subject selection process. Please place the following dates in your calendar for this process.

  • Year 10 Subject Expo - Wednesday 3 August
  • Senior Pathways Information Evening - Wednesday 3rd August 6:00pm - 7:30pm
  • SET Planning Evening - Wednesday 24th August, 1:30pm - 5:30pm

Further communication around subject selections and SET planning will occur early next term, however it would be great for parents and carers to begin conversations with their Year 10 student around preferred pathways, career goals and plans for the coming years. We advise always returning to the key elements of what the student enjoys and what the student has already demonstrated success in.

REQUESTS FOR EXTENSIONS

This is a reminder to all students and families, that our assessment policy requires notification to the college of student illness which impacts upon assessment. In the first instance, families must notify the college of the absence and provide documentation (especially in Years 11 and 12). In the second instance, families must contact the relevant Head of Department, to apply for an extension or change of date to an assessment task. All decisions for extensions are guided by St Mary’s assessment policies.

SUBJECT CHANGES

Most Year 11 subjects are now completing their second major assessment piece for the unit. This means students will have a very clear indication of whether they are in the appropriate subject, or not. There will be a one week window of Year 11 subject changes following the completion of Unit 1. After these changes, no further subject changes will occur until Unit 2 has been completed. To request a change, students must make an appointment with me (this can be done via email) to discuss their proposed change. They will be given a green form that must be completed by the student and parent and returned to me. Students will also be required to discuss their impending change with relevant teachers or Heads of Department. Even with parental permission, there is no guarantee that a change can be made as class numbers may have reached their maximum, or coursework may have advanced too far for new entries.
