It was a pleasure for our college to present certificates for the St Mary’s students who stepped up and extended themselves by being part of the FNQ Regional Final for Tennis Australia’s Queensland Secondary School Team Competition.

This competition was held on Friday 29 April at the International Tennis Centre on Sheridan St near Tobruk Pool.

Tennis is an outstanding sport which can be played for a lifetime. It can be played as an individual, with a partner of mixed ages or gender, and costs very little to equip yourself. If you get good at it can become your profession – just think of Ash Barty. It is a sport recommended for all young people to consider as a choice in keeping a healthy lifestyle for life.

It is commendable these young students have started on their tennis journey. St Mary’s fielded both a male and female team and all played very well. In fact, Kelvin van Honste (Year 11) was the man to beat at this event. The ladies team comprised Ashleigh Rookwood (Year 9), Suriyani Merrill (Year 10), Nora Salerno (Year 10) and Jana Sliskovic (Year 8), while the gentlemen’s team included Kelvin van Honste (year 11), Oscar Simpson (Year 8), Luka Shimokawa (Year 8), Elijah Richardson (Year 8) and Tyler Price (Year 8). Congratulations to these students and lets go one step further next year and win the final: all things are possible with effort.
