Primary Co-Curricular Report

Primary Co-Curricular Report

All Primary sport has now begun with either training or games taking place. Please note that your child should by now have received information from his coach / manager / manageress relating to the season. This would have included any fixtures, medical forms and team information. Please consult with your son to ensure you are in the loop.

Soccer

The Year 6/7 A Soccer team had a good win against St Peter's at home. A slow start was followed by a second half onslaught which saw the boys triumph 5-1.

The Year 6/7 B team faced tough opposition in the form of PAC. Although the boys battled valiantly, PAC were too good on the day.

Basketball

The Year 6/7 Black team defeated St Paul's 25-12 in a solid performance. The team backs up this week against NPS Reds which should be a tough match.

Football

The Year 6/7 team was defeated by a very strong PAC team. Although the scoreboard was pretty favourable for PAC, the Blacks boys fought hard and displayed some good skills on the day.

Medical Forms

Your son would have been issued with a Winter Sports Medical Form. It is essential that your son returns this form prior to their first game. Your child will not be selected for games without it as, in the instance of an injury without parental attendance, coaches and managers need the necessary contact details on hand to provide medical assistance and alert parents.

Fixtures

Where possible, students have been given a hard copy of all relevant season fixtures. All fixtures have been posted on the Co-Curricular tab on the SEQTA Portal. If uncertain, please consult the SEQTA Portal.

Basketball fixtures: MARS Stadium are currently releasing these fixtures one week at a time. When season fixtures become available to us at Blackfriars, all players will be issued with these.

Maps

Each week, students in the Primary School (including Yr 7's), are provided with a hard copy of maps for fixtures programmed away from Blackfriars. All of these maps can also be found on the SEQTA Portal (Co-Curricular Tab).

Uniforms

It was terrific to hear that nearly all students in Primary teams were dressed properly for those matches played in Week 1. Please note that all students in Years 3 to 7 wear the black soccer top and football guernsey for all matches, including away fixtures. These can be purchased from the uniform shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cancellations

Now that the winter weather is starting to impact on training and games, please be reminded of the protocol for cancellations.

Training:

  • Cancellations will generally be posted on the SEQTA Notices by lunchtime of the day involved. Please check this page if conditions are doubtful.
  • The front office is notified of the cancellations and is available to receive calls / questions about cancellations
  • Students – the boys are notified in class and over the PA system of the cancellation
  • Phone calls – the boys are provided with an opportunity to call parents to organise transportation

Game Day – Friday Nights

Cancellations can sometimes be more difficult on game day (Friday nights). Parents generally have to attend the fixture as planned unless there is prior notification. Often the weather hits after school has concluded and families are travelling to fixtures. Coaches will make a decision at the venue regarding the cancellation.

Game Day – Saturday

Students are always expected to attend Saturday morning sport. Coaches will make a decision based on the conditions and the risks posed to the students at the venue.

SAPSASA Athletics

A group of 24 athletes represented Blackfriars at the North Adelaide SAPSASA Athletics Carnival on Monday 6 May. This event serves as a selection trial for the district team which competes at State Day on Tuesday 21 May.

Congratulations to all students for the way in which they competed and behaved on the day. There were numerous place ribbons achieved on the day in both track and field events and the behaviour of our boys was excellent.

Special congratulations go to Joshua Henry (5LW), Tarquin Forby (4H), Liam Waters (7) and Jack Henry (7) who were selected in the North Adelaide District Team to compete at SANTOS Stadium on Tuesday 21 May - a fine achievement! Good luck, boys.

Congratulations

Special congratulations goes to Hugh Caton (6N) on his recent selection in SAPSASA State Swim Team. Hugh will compete in four individual events and two relays at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Melbourne from July 31 - August 2. Congratulations Hugh. All at Blackfriars wish you well!
