Library News

As we settle into the school term we would like to remind students that:

-              Any overdue books should be returned to the library as soon as possible.

-              If you still do not have an ID card for whatever reason, please speak to library staff.

-              Don’t forget to include any books read over the holidays on your PRC form.

In both Primary and Senior schools, we have already started the term with a flurry of borrowing. This includes the hard copies, eBooks and audio books. These can be searched for through our library catalogue with ebooks and audio books downloaded and enjoyed at any time. It’s great to see so much enthusiasm for the humble novel in this age of technology.

As highlighted in previous years we have a Parent Library in the senior library with texts available for parents to read at their leisure. Our parent book for this fortnight is The Cookbook for Children with Special Needs: Learning to cook not only equips children with a valuable life skill, but will help boost self-esteem in other areas of their lives. The book starts with a basic illustrated guide to where food comes from, the different food groups, how to create our own diet and why cooking is a great skill to master. Simple, step-by-step instructions accompanied by fun illustrations, guide children through three levels of cooking, starting with fundamental basics including the preparation of a wide variety of different foods, and building up to more complex recipes. Health and safety skills are taught as an essential part of the cooking activity and healthy eating habits are reinforced throughout. Parents and carers will find cooking with children with special needs to be enjoyable and rewarding with this book, which thoroughly prepares the child for the cooking experience. Teachers, activity organisers and anyone else working with children with special needs will also find this book to be a great resource for cooking inspiration. https://www.booktopia.com.au/the-cookbook-for-children-with-special-needs-deborah-french/prod9781849055383.html

May also find us in “Get Caught Reading Month” and we encourage everyone to get caught reading something during this time and with the colder, darker nights upon us  it seems the perfect time to be getting lost in the written (or spoken) word.
