On Tuesday 20 April the school community once again crowded into the gym to watch the annual Beep Test Challenge. This is an event where the best beep testers from each form in Years 7-9 are invited to compete against each other for the glory of being the Junior Schools best Beep Tester!

It was an exciting event with over 45 students participating and most of the Junior School cheering them on. With some impressive results the best of the best were crowned Beep Test Champions for 2021. Well done to Emily Ellis in Year 7 for the highest female result of level 10.2. Congratulations also to Evan Chen with level 12.5, the highest Year 7 Boys result and Leo Goldberg of Year 8 with level 12.7 with highest level overall.

There was some fantastic running and resilience shown throughout this challenge. Well done to all the students who participated.

This term we also have the annual Cross Country carnival, which will be held on Friday 7 May during Periods 3 & 4 at McKinnon Reserve… more details to come soon.

The SSV State Swimming Titles were held at MSAC recently with the best swimmers from all over Victoria in attendance.

We were very proud to take our team of six students who achieved the following:

Daniel Sidur (Year 8) - 3rd in the 50m breaststroke.

Oscar Whitney (Year 10) - 4th in the 200m freestyle and 5th in the 400m freestyle.

Leo Park (Year 7) - 5th in the 50m butterfly, 6th in the 50m freestyle and 5th in the 50m backstroke.

Finally we had Toby Christrup, Alfie Davies, Neo Yan and Leo Park (Year 7) come 5th in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay.

An outstanding achievement for all of these students to reach the State Finals and they all represented the school in a fantastic manner!

On Friday 23 April we played Beaumaris. In the first innings, we were down 3-0 and the nerves started to kick in.

In the second innings, we realized that Brooklyn Riwaka was our best option for pitcher. Then the comeback started, Beaumaris got strike after strike and the scores were 5-3! The catcher Jesus Camacho Meza was a valuable member catching the fast balls and coaching our runners.

In each innings the batters stole bases without a single mishap. At the completion of the 3rd innings the pennant went to McKinnon 6-3.

Thanks to Mrs Hooper for taking the team in Mr McConnon’s absence.

We now progress to the regionals on Wednesday 28 April at Farm Rd.

Go McKinnon!

On Wednesday 28 April the McKinnon Year 7 Baseball Team became Southern Metropolitan Regional Champions! They will play in the state finals later in the year. Congratulations!
