GET INVOLVED!

Welcome back to Term 2. It’s been pleasing to see students returning to school having spent some time over the break completing reading for their English subjects. Reading at home is an important practice for developing comprehension and inference skills, as well as to allow for class time to be spent discussing and analysing texts.

The English faculty is also excited to announce that we are now running a weekly English Help Session. Starting in Week 3, these sessions will run during lunch on Mondays and will be a space for students to get some informal feedback on their work, ask any questions that they have, or just complete some homework. Keep an eye on Compass for details.

A reminder that Book Club is continuing to run this term at lunch every Wednesday. From discussions on adventure stories to the hilarious and agonizing world of 'BookTok', there’s something for everyone so get involved.

There are also several competitions for students to participate in and win big prizes! Aside from the usual Writer Of The Month competition, students are encouraged to check out the following events:

2021 Kill Your Darlings School Writing Prize

Entries should be between 1000 and 1500 words (fiction or nonfiction) responding to a current social or political issue. Prizes include $50 cash, editorial support and publication of your writing! Entries close on Friday 18 June.

VATE Writing Competition

Categories for students in years 7 - 12. Theme: Stories That Change. Win a $150 book voucher in each category. Entries close Friday 25 June.

Happy reading and writing!
