WPS Community Children’s Garden

Lots of pre-winter chores being done in the garden at the moment. This week, while one group happily madeup songs about worms while clearing out the sensory gardens, another had fun digging up charcoal and ash (a former parent in the CFA burns off our pile of non-compostable weeds once per year), and spreading it on the garden. Charcoal is good for conditioning soil and holding nutrients for slow release, while ash provides nutrients. Try spreading the charcoal and ash from your fire place/pit at home onto your garden or compost heap.

At the end of each day, everyone excitedly tried their luck in the carrot bed. If your lucky dip wasn’t so lucky and your carrot was a mere 10cm long, you can try again. 😊
