e-Smart Week at Woodend Primary School

This week students have taken part in many activities around e-Smart week. National eSmart Week is a week where schools and public libraries come together to promote the smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology.

During my time in and out of classrooms this week we have talked about being kind online and what that looks like. Students had a great discussion around how we can be kind to people and if it’s easy then why do we see so much unkindness online in a variety of ways.

We also discussed:

  • Why is it important to be kind online?
  • How do we show kindness online?
  • Why do you think people believe it is ok to be unkind when posting comments or when in chat rooms?
  • What can you do if someone posts something unkind online?

Students had a richer understanding of being kind online in which they used their understandings and knowledge to then write their own online pledge.
