Middle Unit -2/3

What an excellent day the 2/3 cohort had at the Bendigo Discovery Centre. The excitement and nervousness was palpable first thing Monday morning when all the students lined up and got on to the bus that would take them to Bendigo. Lots of happy excited students were talking on the way to the Discovery Centre discussing what they would do, and the best things to see for those that have already been there before.

Arriving at the Discovery Centre the students met the staff members that would help them with the vertical slide and teach them all about the night sky and space in the Planetarium. After the staff members went over a few safety rules the students were left free to explore the rest of the Discovery Centre, and boy was there a lot to see.

The planetarium, which has just had a major update, was amazing place to see. The students picked their preferred seats out of beanbags, cushion chairs or a normal chair. Leaning back and looking at the roof the students were transported into the night sky looking at the different constellations and then going even further, looking at all the different planets that make up our solar system.

The Vertical slide was a thrilling challenge, which those that wanted to, did the 5 metre drop that turned into a ‘fun’ slide. Much more challenging than it sounds, lots of the students decided to take the challenge and even those that go all the way to the top before changing their minds, impressed their teachers very much.

When not in the planetarium or attempting the vertical slide, the students had the opportunity to explore the rest of the discovery centre, there was lots to see and do. The students enjoyed exploring the range of different S.T.E.M activities learning as they played.

After finishing at the Discovery Centre the students hurried back on to the buses and went to Lake Weeroona for a quick lunch and play on the playground before making our way back to school.

It was a wonderful day and we would like to say a very big thank you to our parent helpers who came and helped out.
