Great Tips For Finding A Book You Will Love!

1. Work out what Genres you enjoy – our fiction collection is shelved by Genre which is a easy way of finding books you are intersted in.  If you love Harry Potter you are a Fantasy fan, if you like Diary of a Wimpy Kid you like Humour.

2. Ask one of the friendly Library staff for assistance – this is our favourite part of the job!  We know what books are popular and with a few questions can give you some great suggestions.

3. Browse the Book Trailer library – The Book Trailer library has a huge collection of mini-videos about books in our collection.

Smartsuite > 7/8 English  > Book Trailers

4. Look at our First Chapter folders (located on the Reading Program trolley) – read the first chapter of our most popular novels in each Genre.

5. Search LibraryThing (https://www.librarything.com/) – This is my favourite book recommendation wesite as it provides a broad rang of recommendations across genres. Simply put your favourite book in the search box (top righthand corner) and LibraryThing will do the rest!

Overdue Books

Just a reminder that Library loans are for two weeks after which students must renew or return their book.  Students receive automated emails from our library system two days before, then Day 3 and 14 on becoming overdue and regularly after that.

When books are overdue for long periods of time (months) we start emailing parents directly via Compass.  We do not charge overdue fines, however long overdue books will incur a replacement fee if not returned.  Parents will receive two warnings and an invoice notification before any charges are added to their school account.

WOW Wednesday

Our remote library service, Words on Wheels is back in the Presentation Space every Wednesday from 12.00–1.00pm with Ms Hast. You will find copies of VCE texts for borrowing, help with study skills and referencing or mindfulness activities. Ms Hast is also available in the JRC Friday lunchtimes. You can also make contact through Compass or directly at thast@fhs.vic.edu.au
