Every day counts!

School attendance is very important for your child’s success emotionally, socially and for their education.  Can I ask that you please check your child's absences on compass and if there are any unexplained absences to complete an attendance note as to why they are absent.  Please see the attached guide if you need assistance.

From next week if you still have outstanding unexplained absences or your child is absent on the day and you have not completed an explanation on your child/childrens account one of the office staff will be giving you a call to update the reason for the absences as it is a requirement from the department that all absences have an explanation for absence.

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify their school as soon as possible on the day of absence using one of the following methods:

  1. Preferred option is Online: log the absence directly using Compass please see the attached file for a guide on how to do this.
  1. Telephone: the school office and let the staff know your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason - i.e. medical/illness, family holiday, parent choice etc.
  2. Email: the school bundoora.ps@education.vic.gov.au and provide the staff with your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason/s.

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

What is your responsibility?

You are legally required to ensure your child attends school every day or you must provide an explanation for their absence. You should let the school know in advance of any upcoming absences or let them know in the morning if your child won’t be at school. In order for schools to implement the same day notification requirement, it’s essential that you provide the school with your most up-to-date contact details.

Generally, one notification will be sent per family. If you are not receiving these notices via text message it may be because your phone number is out of date on our system. Please call or email the office to update your details with us.

What is the school's responsibility?

The school must notify you of an unexplained absence in relation to your child as soon as practicable on the same day.

Please find attached the compass guide for other handy user information.
