Thank you to all the Prep families who attended our parent-teacher conferences a few weeks ago, and also to those who attended our recent open classroom session. The Prep students really enjoyed the opportunity to share their learning with you, and it was wonderful to see how confident and settled our students are in their new building. We have been working very hard to personalise our new learning spaces. Each Prep classroom door has been decorated with a Dr. Seuss-themed book, and there are also displays on the shared pinboards showcasing some of our amazing maths learning. Over the last few weeks, the Prep students have been focusing on collecting, displaying and analysing data by asking and answering questions. If you haven’t already seen our amazing door displays or pinboards, check out the photos below or stop by to see them in person.
In our Discovery lessons, we have been exploring special places, identifying ways to care for them and imagining how things look from a birds-eye view. We have also discussed some local places that have special significance for Indigenous people, and why it is important to respect and protect these places. In our literacy sessions, Prep students are continuing to learn new ways to recognise and use long vowel sounds (such as igh, ai and oa), and have been busy imagining and writing about their very own ‘animal mashups’. It has been a lot of fun seeing our students come up with some really crazy and creative creatures!
100 Days of School
On Wednesday 9th August, the Prep students and teachers held a very special ‘100 Days of School Celebration’. It was a fantastic day, jam-packed with lots of special activities to recognise this important milestone. Students (and teachers) dressed to impress as 100-year old versions of themselves, Prep students posed with a photo backdrop they worked together to make, we made edible necklaces using 100 delicious ‘beads’ and our Grade 5/6 buddies joined us to make cool 100 glasses. The rest of the school also joined in the celebration by putting together an incredible goody bag trail for the Prep students to follow. As a special treat, we also enjoyed fruity zooper doopers at recess time, then held a grand feast with hot chips for lunch. Finally, at the end of the day, we boogied along to some our favourite songs at our 100 Day Disco. It was so much fun! Big thanks to whole BPS community for coming together to recognise our newest students and for making them feel so special on their big day. Check out some photos from our ‘100 Days of School Celebration’ below.
Grade 6 Letter
A quick reminder to all Prep families to return your ‘A letter to…Project’ envelopes by the end of Term 3, 2023. These envelopes were distributed to all Prep students at the beginning of August. While many students have already returned their envelopes, there are still a large number outstanding. These envelopes (and their very special contents) will play an important role when the current Prep students graduate from BPS in Grade 6. If you have lost your envelope or need any further assistance to return it, please speak with one of the Prep teachers.
