Read Grow Inspire!
The year one’s were extremely excited to dress up as their favourite character from a book for Book week. Arriving at school on the Tuesday morning, the room was a buzz with chatter, acting and staying in character. This included funny voices and actions!! The students could hardly contain their excitement when it came time for the Book week parade. It was lovely to hear the students talking about their favourite books, their different characters and situations that happened in those stories. What a great way to share a love of books!!
Data data data!
What makes a good question? What maths operation do we use to find ‘how many more?’ Which has the most? What’s the difference between the favourite and the least favourite? What is a 3T table? These are all questions we have been exploring as we study our data unit. We have been surveying each other, working out the best ways to record our answers and then analysing what we have discovered. So, if your child starts surveying the family about a whole range of topics, you will know why!
Bugs bugs bugs!
Did you know that there are over 20,000 different species of ants in the world and they are on every continent in the world except ANTarctica? We all thought that the fact that the continent with the word ‘ant’ in it is the only one that doesn’t have ants was funny! When we started investigating spiders, we found we knew lots of interesting facts about them already. We discovered that bird spiders can grow to be 30 cm big. Wow! We still have lots of questions though and can’t wait to continue our discovery and hopefully find out some really cool facts! We are all looking forward to our minibeasts incursion coming up soon, which is a fun way to end our term. Look out for the event on Compass and contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.
