Year 9
Year 9 Camp 2023
To enable the Year 9 cohort of students to experience life outside Marian College we travelled into the CBD by train for a three day stay at CYC (Christian Youth Camp) in Collins Street. There was much excitement by the students as this was their first camp at Marian due to COVID cancelling their Year 7 one. After leaving our bags at the camp we headed into Federation Square and then onto the Botanical Gardens. The students had an opportunity to join in prayer and write cards of friendship to each other, parents and/or staff.
Lots of walking was undertaken over the three days with a tour of the Melbourne Cricket Club, ACMI and the National Gallery. On Thursday, students were taken to the top of the Eureka tower to see the city from a different perspective. Then, the Great Race began with groups of students making their way around the CBD visiting various checkpoints and completing extra challenges along the way. The Donut Challenge was a big hit, and many superstars were made at Federation Square as the school song was sung to finish the race. The evenings were spent testing the students’ knowledge on Pop culture and a visit to the movies to see “The Little Mermaid”.
A great time was had by all, and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure that the students were engaged in the activities that were offered by the camp. The students were amazing in their ability to take on new challenges and work with their peers to ensure that the Year 9 camp was a successful one.
