Principal's Message

We have had a very settled start to the second half of the year. Students have coped extremely well with the demands of Semester 1 especially in relation to school assessed course work and the examinations.  The introduction of the change to the Year 9 & 10 program, as well as the updated Victorian Certificate of Education, has been very well received. Students in these levels have been interviewed in focus groups and their positive feedback has given us the impetus to identify further approaches for students to take control of their learning.

There is a great deal happening in Term 3 with respect to student choice and pathways. All students in Years 8 to 12 will be considering what will be their chosen pathway for 2024. We believe that students should consider three elements when making decisions about electives to take or courses to study. These are:

  • Choose those subject/courses that you (personally) enjoy
  • Choose those subject/courses that you believe will provide a high level of achievement or success
  • Choose those subject/courses that will assist you in the pathway that you wish to undertake in the future

There will be program of mentoring organised within the subject selection process. I encourage student and parents/guardians to take full advantage of the supports that are offered. Students need to give due attention to the various opportunities provided in the presentation of course outlines, subjects and electives during school times. Also, it is important to attend, as a family, the various webinars that will further your understanding of subject selection, the processes involved and where to get further information.

This is an exciting time where students have the scope to choose a possible pathway for themselves. We need to remember that pathways at this age are not set in stone and our program allows for much flexibility and exploration.

I wish you all well for an enjoyable term.
