Subject Selection Processes - Senior Certificates 2024

We are now underway with the subject selection process for Year 11 and 12 students for 2024. This week (Wednesday 19 July) we have our Pathways and Subject Information Webinar for all Year 10 students and their parents/guardians.

In addition, students will have information sessions at the College, with information provided by key staff including Learning Leaders, the Pathways and Careers Teams and the Senior Programs Leader, homeroom/mentor and subject teachers. This Friday, 21 July, there is a Subject Information Expo for Year 10 students, entering Year 11 in 2024, between recess and lunch.

All Year 10 students have completed the Morrisby Profile and almost all have had a one-to-one mentoring session with one of our Careers and Pathways Staff. Homeroom/Mentor Teachers and other selected staff will be providing additional mentoring for students through this process.

Applications for VCE and VCE VET Unit 3/4 Accelerated Studies have opened, and a number of students have already completed these. As one component of our individualised student learning pathways, students who have demonstrated excellence in achievement and Marian Learning Behaviours may apply for one or even two VCE and VCE VET Accelerated Studies for 2024. Applications for the VCE – Vocational Major have also opened.

The Senior Certificate Subject Handbook and all other information related to the subject selection process are available on the SEQTA Subject Selection Information Portal Page.

Subject Selection Processes - Year 9 and 10 2024

There will be a Year 10 2024 Pathways and Subject Information Webinar for all current Year 9 students on Monday 24 July. This session will introduce the Senior Pathways at Marian College, briefly outlining the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), including the VCE Vocational Major, and VET Programs. Many students may choose to commence their VCE Pathway in Year 10. Applications for Unit 1/2 VCE and VCE VET Studies for Year 10 students in 2024 are now open and students have been provided with information about this process at a presentation in their Wellbeing Program last week.

For our Year 8 students and their families, their Year 9 2024 Subject Information Webinar will be on Wednesday 26 July.

In these webinars, our exciting Marian College Year 9 - 10 Program, with extensive student choice, will be covered and advice will be provided on how to select a personalised program to suit the interests and aspirations of each student. This should enable students to make informed choices regarding their programs of study, as they progress towards the senior years. The subject selection processes will also be explained.

Additional information sessions will be facilitated at school, for both our current Year 8 and 9 students, as well as one-to-one mentoring interviews.

The Year 9 and 10 Subject Handbook will be available on the SEQTA Subject Information Portal Page prior to the Webinars. Please take time to read this. The Handbook is web-based and includes video screencasts for each of the units offered. Other relevant information will be available on the portal page too.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences

Our next Parent - Teacher - Student Conferences are scheduled for 10 August and will be again conducted via Google Meet. These conferences provide an important opportunity for you to talk with your daughter and her subject teachers about her learning and progress. These conversations provide valuable feedback on areas of strength and areas where improvements can be made. Strategies can then be discussed and implemented.

Furthermore, and most importantly, the interviews will provide another important opportunity to discuss pathways and subject selection for 2024.
