Student Wellbeing
Welcome Back to Term 3
As we enter the second month of winter we now begin the process of looking towards student subject and leadership selection for 2024.
A few reminders to begin with…
Uniform Update
We have now received from Noone’s our supply of School ties and they are now available for purchase from the Uniform shop on either Wednesday’s or Friday’s.
Students who have been waiting for their ties to arrive are required to purchase them as soon as possible as the tie is a compulsory part of our uniform.
Can we also remind all students and families of the following:
- Tracksuit pants should not be worn as an alternative to our school pants. Hoodies etc. are not part of the PE uniform.
- Hair should be tied back at all times.
- Facial piercings are NOT part of our uniform expectations. Students who wear facial piercings will have the jewellery item confiscated and it will be returned at the end of the week or term.
We thank all of our families that support our uniform expectations and will continue to work with those students and families that need assistance with their uniform.
Leadership Process begins….
Year 11 students who wish to hold a student leadership position in 2024, such as Lamp Bearer or Student Representative Council, were asked submit the Leadership Booklet before the end of Term 2.
As of the end of June, we have just over 20 Year 11 students who have submitted their booklets for consideration.
We now move on to the Leadership Day to be held later in Term 3 to begin the selection process for 2024.
We look forward to keeping our community informed as we proceed over the second half of the year.
Child Safety Presentation to Staff – Professional Learning Day – Monday 11 July
On the Staff Professional Learning Day on Monday 11 July I facilitated a Child Safety Presentation that focused on our Child Safety Register and all of the processes and structures that we have in place to protect all of the students in our care.
This presentation included an analysis of what we do to identify the risks that our students are exposed to and what we are doing as a school community to minimize these risks. We looked at our processes during the school day and for excursions and camps,
This is ongoing work as we continue to ensure that we are doing everything that we can to keep all of the students in our care safe both in and out of our school environment.
eSafety Commission information for our families
Please find attached to this edition of the Marian News a copy of the eSafety Commissions work in relation to making parents aware on the issues associated with on-line safety for our young people.
This booklet covers topics such as:
- Cyberbullying
- Online inappropriate behaviour
- Time online
- Online gaming
- Grooming
- Reporting of any forms of abuse
We encourage our parent community to take some time to read this information and have conversations with their families about the ways that they can have open communication about keeping safe in the social media world. If you have any concerns about any of this information or around your child’s use of social media please reach out to either the Homeroom/Mentor teacher or Year Level Leader that works with your child.
We will identify relevant material that the e-Safety Commission has on their website and share this with our community with the focus on keeping everyone online safe.
We know this is a focus for families as well as our school community.
In the meantime, stay warm, stay safe and take care.
