Csilla Schild

Library Technician

I have been at Marian College for 10 years as a staff member however I also attended Marian College as a student!

1. Tell us a little about your life outside of teaching? Eg. Family, hobbies. Passions

I have a beautiful small family, that although drives me a little nuts sometimes are the cornerstone to my life. I love to read, travel and explore new places.

2. How did you end up working at Marian College?

I loved working at a DVD rental (my first job) and decided to further my qualifications by studying Library and Information Services at Swinburne. While at work I bumped into a teacher who recommended volunteering at Marian while studying. Then one thing lead to another, and here I am working for just over 10 years. I love what I do and thoroughly enjoy working at Marian.

3. What do you like most about working at Marian College?

I love working with students, they bring great joy to my working life! I love recommending books, answering even the silliest of questions, decorating and putting up displays, creating competitions but my absolute favourite is being part of Book Week! I have a fantastic job.

4. What are the biggest challenges facing teachers today?

One of the biggest challenges that staff face today would be their ever increasing workload. Despite the stress of my job, I am lucky and grateful that we have a very reliable team that I can depend on.

5. What are the biggest challenges facing teenage girls today?

Probably the overwhelming influence of social media. Social media does have its good sides however it can seriously effect a young persons self-esteem when comparing to others online.

6. Favourite food & drink?

Ramen is my go to meal, and as for favourite drink, definitely coffee!

7. Favourite holiday destination?

Japan! Been there twice but would love to go again!

8. Favourite TV show & Movie?

I do love a bit fantasy and a historical drama and all the Jane Austen (books) and movies.

9. If you weren’t in your current role, what would you be?

If I weren’t a Library Technician I would be a veterinarian, or someone who works with animals.

10. Which 5 people in history would you like to invite to a dinner party?

- My ancestors particularly my great grandfather

- Mary Shelley

- Jane Austen

- Sir David Attenborough

- J.R.R. Tolkien
