From the Year 2 Classroom
What a fantastic start we have had to Term 3! The weeks are already flying by, and our Year 2 students have settled back into learning beautifully.
Over the past few weeks, we have been discussing what good sportsmanship looks like, particularly during playground games such as soccer. We have noticed some rough play and students changing the rules of games, so we would appreciate your support by talking with your child about the importance of playing fairly, following agreed rules, and showing respect for others.
We have also seen an increase in the number of squishy toys being brought into the classroom. To minimise distractions and prevent them from being misplaced, we kindly ask that all squishies remain at home.

Literacy
In Literacy, we have been exploring the reading strategy of inferring. Students have enjoyed writing clues that encourage readers to guess what is happening, where the story is taking place, and who is being described. It has been a fun and engaging way to develop comprehension skills!
In Spelling, we have been learning about silent letters, such as the k in knee and the b in lamb. We have also been investigating when the letter c makes the /s/ sound.
Our tricky words over the past few weeks have been: minutes, other, another, mother, brother, remember and decided.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been developing our understanding of multiplication and division, using arrays to model a range of number sentences. Many students have begun learning strategies for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and are practising these regularly. This is a wonderful foundation as they prepare for Year 3.
Religion
In Religion, we are continuing to learn about the life of Jesus and compare His experiences with our own lives. This week, students had great fun playing a variety of games that children may have enjoyed during Jesus' time.
Inquiry
Last Thursday, we visited the original Sacred Heart Primary School as part of our Inquiry unit on significant buildings in our community. Students loved discovering how the school has changed over the years and comparing it to our current school. One of the biggest highlights was learning that students used to walk to Kennedy Park to play during lunchtime!
Building Independence
As Year 3 approaches, we are gradually increasing our expectations for students to become more independent learners. This includes maintaining concentration for longer periods, listening to and following multi-step instructions, and completing everyday tasks independently, such as carrying their own bags and walking into school on their own.
We greatly appreciate your continued support in encouraging these important skills at home. Together, we can help our students develop the confidence and independence they need for a successful transition into Year 3.
