Drama, drama, drama!
It’s all happening out here in the Performing Arts room this term! Our students are all busy learning and exploring the wonderful world of role play, imagination and live action role playing.
In Foundation, students have been exploring the wonderful world of drama through role-play activities inspired by the much-loved story Wombat Stew. In the coming weeks, our preps will be bringing the characters to life by using their voices, facial expressions and actions to retell the story. Through imaginative play, we have been developing confidence, creativity and teamwork skills while learning how to perform in front of an audience.
In Years 1 and 2, we have been using the popular text The Gruffalo as inspiration for our drama learning. Through role-play and simple performances, students will explore character emotions, movement and voice to recreate key scenes from the story. We will be working collaboratively to act out the adventures of Mouse and the other forest animals.
In Years 3 and 4, students have been delving into the exciting world of fairy tales by recreating and performing plays based on Little Red Riding Hood. Students have been learning how to develop characters, use expressive voices and work together to bring a well-known story to life on stage. They have been exploring different interpretations of the tale while practising important drama skills such as improvisation, teamwork and audience awareness. Their enthusiasm and imagination have made for some entertaining and engaging rehearsals so far!
Year 5 and 6 students have been focusing on the art of the monologues, developing their ability to perform as a single character and communicate a story to an audience. Through writing, rehearsing and presenting their own monologues, students have been exploring character development, emotion and expressive delivery. They have been working hard to build confidence in speaking independently and using dramatic techniques to engage listeners. I look forward to hearing and seeing these students present their monologues in the coming weeks!
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to those families that have kindly donated costumes, props and dress ups for our growing ‘Costume Department’
