From the Year 1 Classroom

Hello Grade One families!
We are very excited to celebrate our beautiful grandparents and special people on Thursday’s Liturgy.
Reminders- Across the whole school we are having a focus on improving our morning routine.
All students are expected to walk in, put their bags away, do their jobs and then head out to play, without reentering the buildings until the bell. If you could please reinforce this in the mornings also, we would be very appreciative.
- Lots of students are coming to school in shorts and a t-shirt and then are asking to stay inside because they are cold. Please make sure your child has a jumper or jacket with their named clearly marked.
- We have been trying to keep a close eye on the children’s lunchboxes to make sure they are eating their food at recess and lunch times. The children are always eager to get to play but please support us by reinforcing the importance of eating all their food before taking off to play.
Thank you!
Readers- Please remember to continue to bring in home readers on a Friday.

➕➖Maths-
This week we will explore patterns. We know that something becomes a pattern when it repeats itself. We have looked at labelling 3-part patterns and explaining why they are patterns. We know patterns are everywhere! We are learning to build AB and ABC patterns with blocks, paper clips, pencils, paddle pop sticks and mini tiles!
We will also begin to explore doubles facts and near doubles. We can use ‘near doubles’ as an addition strategy!
1 and 1 is double 1 and double 1 is 2.
2 and 2 is double 2 and double 2 is 4.
3 and 3 is double 3 and double 3 is 6.
4 and 4 is double 4 and double 4 is 8.
5 and 5 is double and double 5 is 10.
