Head Start Director
Oscar is currently in Year 12 and has been completing a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) in Carpentry for the last 16 months.
Oscar joined the Head Start program in 2023 while he was in Year 10 and was signed up into his Carpentry SBAT in September 2023. Oscar’s career goal is to go to university and become an architect, but he wanted to learn all aspects of designing and the building of houses.
By combining his SBAT into his senior school program Oscar has been able to start an apprenticeship as a carpenter where he can learn and gain the skills to become a qualified carpenter once he leaves school having completed his VCE. Oscar his highly regarded by his trainer from Builders Academy and he works hard to complete the self-paced learning. Oscar’s employer provides additional work for Oscar during the school holidays.
Oscar is well on his way to having completed more than ¼ of his apprenticeship. He does not need to find an apprenticeship when he leaves school, he is an apprentice NOW!
Oscar in his spare time, loves to design and build different furniture pieces and sells them on Facebook marketplace.
If you would like to undertake an apprenticeship in a field of your interest, speak with Julie Byrne, Head Start Industry Coordinator.
Julie is at the college two days a week, alternatively you can speak to Jamie Lee in the Careers Office to start the process.
