Principal Report

Catherine Gilchriest

A/Principal

As we approach the end of Term 1, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our school community for your ongoing support over the past three terms. It has been a privilege to lead the College as Acting Principal during this time, and I am grateful for the encouragement and partnership of staff, students, and families. At the start of Term 2, we look forward to welcoming David Caughey back as our College Principal.

This year has begun with a strong focus on learning in classrooms, supported by minimal distractions thanks to the continued implementation of our mobile phone policy. We appreciate the commitment of families in reinforcing this expectation, which has contributed to a settled and focused learning environment. This positive impact has been reflected in student results from our first Common Assessment Task (CAT) period for Years 7 to 10 and School-Assessed Coursework (SACs) for Years 11 and 12. Additionally, the policy has fostered greater social connection among students during break times.

There have been many highlights this term, including our Student Learner Conferences, Year 7 Camp, College Athletics Day, Basketball Academy tournaments and the Show Up talent show. Each of these events has provided valuable opportunities for connection, engagement, and student growth, reinforcing the strength of our college community.

Our School Review process has now concluded, and we are awaiting the endorsement of our new Strategic Plan, which will then be shared with the College community. Key highlights from the review include recognition of our commitment to student wellbeing and engagement, our focus on improving learning outcomes, and the strong sense of connection within our school.

As we move into the cooler months, we remind students to check that they have the appropriate winter uniform items, including the College jumper, rugby jumper, or jacket. Trackpants are not part of our uniform, and students wishing to wear long pants must ensure they are black, business-style pants in line with our uniform policy. Please contact the relevant year level team if you require support with uniform items.

A strong start to Term 2 begins with strong attendance. While the first week is a short one due to public holidays, it is important that all students attend all three days to set a positive tone for the term ahead. A reminder that learning begins at 8:55 am each morning, and students should arrive by 8:45 am to ensure they are prepared and ready for their first class.

The term will conclude with a Curriculum Day, providing teachers with dedicated time to collaborate and refine their practice. I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned and restful break, and I look forward to seeing our community refreshed and ready for Term 2.
