Data Supports Student Learning

Significant Data Collection Time

It is that time of Term 1 when assessments are being carried out across the school. Many Year 11 and 12 students have already completed their first SAC (School Assessed Coursework).  For the Year 11 students, this first SAC shows the rigour required for VCE and VCE VM study. The students who have been completing homework, keeping up with class work, asking questions in class, making notes and summarising have, in general, performed better than students who have not yet discovered the discipline they need.

In Years 7 – 10 CATs (Common Assessment Tasks) are nearly finished. One of the unique features of these assessments at Cranbourne Secondary College is that we invite students to provide feedback about the assessment, and this feedback is used to improve future assessments. Furthermore, students can nominate to participate in the moderation process that will take place early in Term 2.

As part of our ongoing data collection process, students new to the College are being tested in PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) for Reading and Maths and AGAT (General Ability Test). The results of these tests are used by teachers to ensure that the young person is learning at a suitable level for them and is getting the support or extension that they need. The students also use these results in goal setting activities, along with Progress Report and Semester Report data.

Early in Term 2 all the Year 7 – 10 CAT results will be collated and uploaded to Literatu, where you and your young person will then be able to view all their results for Term 1 in one place.
