Auslan News
Grade Preps completed their topic on Family by creating a papercraft Family House to sign about their family members. 😊 Grade Preps have begun their final topic for Term 3 this week, learning signs for School, including: Principal Trezise, Assistant Principal Parkes, teacher, students, school, class, bell, wash hands, canteen, time, play time, lunch time, finished, line up. They have been practising these signs through Bingo! and Memory games.
Grade 1-2s have continued with their topic on Transport & Travel. Students have been creating sentences in Auslan for their peers to interpret, combining their knowledge of signs for People and Transport to explain how people travel to school, work, sports and holidays. They have also enjoyed practising their signs in a Transport board game. It has been so nice to move around the room and see the students signing the different modes of transport as they land on the different transport pictures in the game!
The Grade 3-4 students have continued with their topic on Food & Meal Times. They have been working on their Learning Tasks for this term, choosing a family meal time to sign, learning the food and drink signs for their chosen meal and preparing to record themselves signing. It has been interesting learning a lot of different food and drink signs with the Grade 3-4s and they have been working hard to learn their chosen signs. Students will be signing their Learning Tasks this week.
Grade 5-6s have finished their topic on Medical and Health signs. The students really enjoyed playing Bingo! to practise these signs and then wrote simple sentences to sign for the class for their peers to interpret. This week Grade 5-6 students have started their final topic for term 3, learning signs for Occupations, including: Teacher, Doctor, Nurse, Firefighter, Dentist, Police Officer, Chef, Hairdresser, Astronaut, Pilot, Postman, Vet, Mechanic, Soldier, Artist, Farmer, Musician, Photographer, Singer, Carpenter, Scientist, Worker, Waiter, Sailor, Business Person, Sports Person and Builder. The Grade 5-6s have enjoyed playing Memory, and some board games to practise these signs.
