Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships:
This term, our Grade 3/4 students have been learning about Positive Coping as part of our Respectful Relationships program.
Throughout the unit, students have been learning about what makes a relationship respectful and positive. They have talked about how positive relationships with friends, family and others can help us feel happy, supported and confident, especially when things don’t go as planned. Students have explored different ways to share their thoughts and feelings, listen to others, solve problems and manage disagreements respectfully.
One of the highlights of our learning has been acting out different scenarios and thinking about what we could do when we are feeling worried, upset or overwhelmed. Students discovered that asking for help is a positive coping strategy and that it is okay to reach out.
The learning has connected to situations that students experience every day, helping them think about how they can build positive relationships and use healthy coping strategies at school, at home and in their community.
The Grade 5 and 6 students are continuing to kick goals with their individual and class awards!
We’ve had lots of rewards being cashed in as students reach their Bronze and Silver milestones. There have been class parties, games, special rewards and, of course, plenty of visits to the Gugu Café!
One of the exciting individual rewards available to our Grade 5 and 6 students is 3D printing!
We have a great selection of 3D printing options to choose from, with our 3D Printing Monitors ready and waiting to receive orders and bring students’ creations to life!

Donut Day!
Thank you so much for all of your support with Donut Day. It was an incredible success. A huge thank you needs to go out to Walker's Doughnuts for their generosity in supporting this fundraiser.
We are getting closer and closer to funding our outdoor table tennis table.
🎨 Mural News!
We have been inundated with student mural designs for consideration for our mural. We have received an incredible 135 student designs, and every one has shown incredible talent and potential. There has been some pretty consistent themes amongst the work though... rainbows, birds and blue tongue lizards, which are perfect for our school!
Our next step is to consult with our artist, Kate. Taking inspiration and ideas from our student designs, she is going to create 3 options for us- that all students will have the opportunity to vote on.

Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
Collectively SGPS have read 4,369 books over the duration of the 2026 Premiers' Reading Challenge! We had 113 students complete the challenge which is a fabulous effort. Congratualtions to all who participated in the Challenge this year! Keep up the great reading!
Hats are back!
As a proud SunSmart school, students will be asked to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside from 1st September. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from this date through to the end of April. Although it may not feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days.
Staff will spend the first few days reminding students of this change. Following this, students without an appropriate hat will be required to remain in the shaded area around the Hub during lunch and recess.
Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!
Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart app, sunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.
