Swimming Carnival Review

On Thursday the 26th of February, eight of our senior students went to Crib Point Pool for District Swimming. They competed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and relay events. The students who attended were Elouise, Mary, Maya, Alana, Spencer, Clara, Isla and Max.

We set up our gear next to the Balnarring and Moorooduc students on the other side of the pool. Freestyle was the first event. Our freestyle swimmers were Mary, Max, Isla, Spencer and Clara.

The 12/13-year-old girls went first. Bittern was in the second heat. We found our lanes and waited for the first heat to finish. As the first swimmers climbed out of the pool, the second heat prepared to enter. The first whistle was blown and a few small schools climbed in. The second whistle was blown and the swimmers were off.

They had to swim two laps of the 25-metre pool. Faster and faster Bittern swam, and we came first in the second heat of the 12/13-year-old girls freestyle. Unfortunately, we did not progress to the next level.

Next were the 12/13-year-old boys. Bittern fought hard and came third. In the 11-year-old events, we came first in the boys and fourth in the girls. The 10-year-old girls swam strongly and finished fourth.

Freestyle was finished so it was time for backstroke. Our backstroke swimmers were Maya, Elouise, Isla, Spencer and Max.

The 12/13-year-old girls competed first. Maya came first and progressed to Division. The rest of our swimmers also performed well, achieving places of fourth, first and fourth.

Next was breaststroke. Our breaststroke swimmer was Alana. She swam incredibly fast, came first and progressed to the next level alongside Maya. Well done!

Our relay teams were outstanding. The 12/13-year-old girls team consisted of Mary, Maya, Alana and Isla. They swam extremely hard and came first. Sadly, they did not progress to Division.

Our other relay team was Isla, Spencer, Elouise and Clara. They swam brilliantly and came second.

Afterwards it was time to pack up and head home. We changed, gathered our belongings and reflected on a very successful day.

Congratulations to Maya and Alana, and good luck at the next level!
