Womin Djeka Festival - Saturday 14th March. We need your help!

The Womin Djeka festival is rapidly approaching. We desperately need families to help support our display at the event on Saturday 14th March.  At this stage we have zero volunteers!

Please consider helping us out! All we ask is an hour or 2 of your time to supervise the display. This festival is a great event and well worth attending. Please let us know ASAP if you can assist.

Open Afternoon

This newsletter will go to publication just prior to our Open Day afternoon. This event is a great opportunity to showcase our learning programs and facilities and meet our incredible staff.  There will be face painting, PMP, and specialist activities. Elysium (our OSHC program) will be making friendship bracelets, art activities, games and most importantly a free sausage sizzle. Stay tuned for the next edition of the Bittern Buzz for detailed reports and photos of this event.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is an annual standardized test in Australia for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9.

It assesses skills in:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Spelling
  • Grammar and punctuation
  • Numeracy

The test helps schools, parents, and governments understand how students are performing in key literacy and numeracy skills compared to national standards.

NAPLAN commences on Wednesday 11th March.

Car Parking concerns (staff car park)

Gallery Image

We are noticing that some parents are using the staff car park in the afternoons. We ask that parents/carers refrain from using the staff car park as this is a child safety issue. This is not a walkthrough or a car parking area for our children or families. This area is not supervised and cars frequently enter and leave this zone.

We are aware of the issues with car parking during pick up and drop off times. As an alternative please use the rear of the school where there is ample parking.

Uniform/School Dress Code

We ask parents/carers for their support in ensuring that the correct school uniform is provided for your child. We are noticing the following:

  • socks with logos (white, black or blue socks are permitted)
  • bike shorts (should be worn as a undergarment only)
  • jewellery and nail polish (false nails are also not permitted)
  • incorrect jumpers

Our school dress code policy is available below and can also be found on our school's website  https://bitternps.vic.edu.au/

Please note the following points on this Dress code policy:

Jewellery and cosmetics:  Students are not permitted to wear decorative jewellery to school. Stud earrings and sleepers worn in the ears, and watches (excluding SMART watches and wearable devices) are the only acceptable jewellery. Cosmetics may not be worn at school. Only clear nail polish is permitted.

If you are having difficulty providing uniform for your child please contact the office. We can help with vouchers and second hand uniform.

Thank you for your support!

Capital Works Project

Exciting News! The front of our school is scheduled for a fabulous upgrade this year. We are currently working with an architect and the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) to develop a Welcome Court for the front of the school.  This process has gone to tender at this stage and hopefully construction will commence in Term 2. During this time there will be some temporary changes to the entry and exit pathways to our school. More information to follow closer to the date.
