Thank You for Your Support During Parent-Teacher Conferences

A sincere thank you to all of our families for your support during our Parent-Teacher Conferences in Week 3. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to meet with your child's teacher to celebrate their learning, discuss their progress, and reflect on the growth they have made throughout Semester One. These conversations are an important part of the partnership between home and school, helping us work together to support every child's continued success.

We would also like to thank families for accommodating the early student dismissal on the conference day, which enabled our teachers to dedicate this valuable time to meeting with families. Your understanding and ongoing support are greatly appreciated.

Happy Principals' Day!

Today (7.8.26) we celebrate Principals' Day and recognise the dedication, leadership and care shown by our school leaders each and every day.

A heartfelt thank you to our Principal, Jackie Daniali, and our Assistant Principals for their incredible commitment to supporting our students, staff and families. Their vision, guidance and hard work help create a positive, inclusive and inspiring learning environment where everyone can thrive.

We are grateful for all that they do behind the scenes to make Saltwater P–9 College such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Trevor MacKenzie Inspires Teaching Teams at Saltwater P-9 College

Our teaching teams had the privilege of working with Trevor MacKenzie, a leading IB inquiry-based learning consultant and author from Canada. Trevor is known for empowering educators to build student-driven, curiosity-led classrooms. Trevor led full days of ‘Learning Lab: Inquiry in Action’ with our staff and leadership, exploring how to deepen inquiry practices using provocation tasks, open-ended experiences that spark student questions and thinking.

The days included team-teaching sessions in classrooms from Year 3-9, where Trevor and our teachers modelled how to use student ideas and questions to guide the learning process in real time. Teachers then worked with Trevor to plan future IB Units of Inquiry focused on student voice, engagement, and deeper thinking.

100 Days of Prep

CONGRATULATIONS! to our Prep students who celebrated 100 Days of School on Wednesday 29 July. This special milestone marked 100 days of learning, growing, and having fun together in Prep. To mark the occasion, students came dressed in something related to the number 100. Throughout the school day, they enjoyed fun counting activities, games, and classroom celebrations, to honour this exciting achievement. What an exciting event for all involved, and a huge shout out to families for your support with this important celebration!

ICAS Assessments

Across the College we have 248 students signed up to complete the six ICAS assessments (Writing, Digital Technologies, English, Spelling, Science and Mathematics) in the upcoming weeks. Best of luck to the students who will be participating in the ICAS assessments and hopefully we can bring home a couple of medals!

Here are the testing windows for each of the tests, communication to parents as to the specific date and times of testings will be provided closer to each testing window.

Book Week: Symphony of Stories. August 22–28

At Saltwater College, we will celebrate Book Week on August 22–28, with the theme "Symphony of Stories." This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the CBCA Book of the Year Awards — a wonderful chance to celebrate Australian authors, illustrators and the joy of reading.

Parade day

On Friday, August 28, each year level will participate in a Book Week parade.

Students may dress in a Book Week–themed outfit or as a favourite story character. Costumes do not need to be bought. Recycled or homemade outfits using everyday items are perfect. Think simple props, paper crowns, themed colours, or character accessories (hats, scarves, signs) to bring ideas to life. Parents and carers are welcome to help with costume ideas, but please avoid fragile items and ensure outfits are comfortable for your child/ren.

Book Week Activities

• Library read-aloud sessions for all year levels: Timetabled visits to the library will feature teachers and special guests reading a selection of Book Week titles. 

• Classroom book-focused activities and celebrations: Teachers will run themed lessons and creative tasks such as story mapping, character art, short writing prompts, and group storytelling, to deepen engagement with the books and extend students’ love of reading across the week.

Secondary Athletics Day

On August 6th, our secondary students attended the Wyndham Athletics Track in Hoppers Crossing to participate in the 2026 Secondary School athletics day. We were lucky enough to have a bright sunny day where students competed in their age groups for numerous ribbons and a spot to represent the school for the athletics team later on in the year.

Congratulations to all of the students and teachers involved as it was a very successful day!

Student Supervision Hours

A reminder to all families that our school gates at the Primary Campus open at 8:15am, and students are supervised from 8:15am to 2:50pm each school day.

Outside of these hours, we are unable to provide supervision, as teachers have professional learning, preparation and meeting commitments before and after school. We kindly ask that students are not dropped off or left at school outside of the designated supervision times. We appreciate your support in helping us keep all students safe.
