Beginning of Term 4:

Mathematics

Term 4 has marked the finale of our VCE 3-4 maths classes for 2025.

For our general, methods and specialist maths students, I would like to extend my deepest respect and congratulations for making it through the year.

You have all worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and with exams coming up soon you are almost at the end.

Regardless of what pathway you choose to follow in the future, I would like to thank you again for your efforts in maths here at South Oakleigh, and I hope you are able to take what you have learned here to go on to great things in your future.

Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad (AIMO) Achievement

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of three of our students who recently participated in the Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad (AIMO). The AIMO is a nationally recognised competition aimed at extending mathematically able students through high-level problem-solving and reasoning tasks.

The competition requires students to work independently for several hours on challenging, non-routine mathematical problems, without the use of a calculator. It calls for creativity, perseverance, logical thinking and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

This year, our students demonstrated these qualities exceptionally well:

· Sol Oron– Participation

· Aryan Bhasin – Participation

· Ranger Jiang– Credit

All three students represented our school with pride, maturity, and a commitment to excellence. We are delighted with their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to develop their mathematical thinking.
