Ryan’s Martial Arts Success
We’re proud to celebrate Ryan from Year 8, whose dedication and determination have led to outstanding achievements in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).
Ryan discovered his passion for MMA just last year and has shown incredible commitment and discipline — training up to 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. His hard work is certainly paying off!
This year, Ryan began competing and has already earned multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals. Most recently, he represented himself and our College with pride at Monash University on Sunday, 5 October, where he competed in two divisions:
- Boys, 14 years, No Gi (Grey Belt, 62kg or less)
 - Boys, 14 years, Gi (White Belt, 67kg +)

Ryan took out first place in both events, earning two gold medals — an incredible achievement!
He’s now preparing to compete in his next major event in Sydney later this month, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.
Congratulations, Ryan — your dedication, perseverance, and passion truly embody our South Oakleigh College values of Hard Work, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Teamwork. 👏

In these photos you will find year 7s dominating the basketball courts but not in the traditional sense…it was the joined classes brainstormed idea to set up multiple make-shift volleyball courts using the portable nets and green lines.
This was an introductory lesson where students learned the basic skills of volleyball including strike, set, dig, and rally’s.
